Grant to Fund Online Disaster Recovery for Rural Communities

MORETOWN, Vt. - There's big plans for online development in Vermont in 2013 and thanks to Senator Patrick Leahy rural communities now have a boost in funding to help develop more online resources.

The Economic Development award was helped secured by senator Leahy and it will be going to the Vermont Council on Rural Development to help online resources during disasters like Tropical Storm Irene.

U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.8 Million to Expand Internet Capacity for Vermont Businesses in the Wake of Tropical Storm Irene

WASHINGTON — Acting U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank today announced a $1.8 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to the Vermont Council on Rural Development of Montpelier, Vermont. The investment will help the state rebound economically from Tropical Storm Irene by supporting the Vermont Digital Economy Project, an initiative focused on integrating online tools into rural business strategies, community development, and economic development efforts.

Website Design Contest Winner Announced: Innovative Contest Provides New Tools for Digital Literacy

MONTPELIER, VT - A winner has been chosen in the Beginner Friendly Website Design contest organized by the e-Vermont Community Broadband Project. Lars Hasselblad Torres, a freelance web designer who recently launched the Local 64 co-working space in downtown Montpelier, won with his design for the fictional community of Milestone, VT.

Jordan: Closing the digital divide in Vermont
